Welcome to Mel Morris Conservation

Established in 2001, Mel Morris Conservation is a heritage consultancy providing professional advice on the conservation of the historic environment.

Directed by Mel Morris, who has over 25 years experience in building conservation, we take meticulous care to research & understand each heritage asset, so that our advice is well informed.

We use the complementary skills of independent consultants, in disciplines such as architecture, ecology & archaeology, to provide an integrated approach to the historic environment, tailored to the needs of each site or project.

Mel Morris Conservation was established in 2001 by Melanie Lloyd Morris as an historic buildings and heritage consultancy to advise both the private and public sector on the conservation of the historic built environment.

Mel Morris Conservation is based in north Staffordshire. This central location enables us to offer historic buildings & heritage consultancy services for the East Midlands (Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire & Nottinghamshire), the West Midlands (Staffordshire, Shropshire, Birmingham) and the North-West (Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Lancashire).

The work of our practice has encompassed scheduled monuments, historic parks & gardens, a World Heritage Site, major Grade I & II* listed buildings and conservation areas, all of which fall under the widely recognised, general term - “heritage asset”.

We treat each heritage asset with care & integrity & always aim to identify the rare & unusual. Whilst we focus initially on the detail, undertaking a detailed analysis & research, we then look at the wider picture, the immediate, regional & national context & draw out the significance of each element of a site or building, its setting and the site as a whole.

As an historic buildings consultancy we can advise on applications affecting listed buildings (listed building consent or planning permission & design & access statements) or historic buildings in conservation areas and we regularly work with architects and planning consultancies to provide a service that meets the requirements of local conservation officers.
