Listed Buildings Advice - Lawn House, Etwall

The three-storey house at Lawn House, Etwall is a handsome red brick historic building built in the late 18th century. The owner of the building wanted to add a solar collector panel on a rear roof slope, which would generate hot water.

We prepared both an Impact Assessment and a Design & Access Statement, which considered the optimum location to balance economic & energy factors with impact on the listed building. Its potential impact was mitigated by locating the panel on an extension to the original building & using the least reflective materials available.

There is increasing pressure for all buildings to be more energy efficient. It is a major challenge to address energy conservation within historic buildings, to allow some degree of adaptation without spoiling historic character.
