Advice on historic interiors

For museums or historic interiors, we work in partnership with Halahan Associates who are museum conservation consultants & object conservators (members of ICON - the Institute of Conservation) specialising in collections care, environmental monitoring, risk assessments & preventive conservation.

Together we evaluate an historic interior, its historic interest & significance, & measures needed to address the delicate conflicts that can arise between managing public access & conserving historic fabric or collections. Our shared broad experience of museums and historic buildings means that we can provide a bespoke service that offers useful advice appropriate for each client’s situation. Whilst this is something that the National Trust & English Heritage undertake as a matter of course, private individuals, independent museums & local authorities with historic houses or collections often do not have ready access to this level of advice. This is particularly useful for lottery funding applications where new initiatives or improved access are proposed.

We have recently collaborated on a project at Grade I listed Caverswall Castle with advice on the care of the historic interiors.  This included an assessment of risk damage and a sensitivity analysis of the interiors.
